Islamic Ruling on Vomiting of Pregnant Woman while Observing Fast of Ramadan

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
What is the ruling on the pregnant woman who has vomited unintentionally during daytime of Ramadan?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Jurists are of the view that vomiting unintentionally during daytime of Ramadan doesn’t render one’s fast invalid and such a person is free from liability and isn`t obliged to make up for that day since Allah does not charge a self (anything) except its capacity. Besides, the Prophet (PBUH) said (What means):" If one has a sudden attack of vomiting while one is fasting, no atonement is required of him, but if he vomits intentionally he must make atonement."{Abu Dawoud}.In conclusion, whosoever vomits intentionally during daytime of Ramadan is obliged to make up for it. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
