Wearing purda part time

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I like to know the ruling on a woman wearing niqab on a part time basis. Say for instance when she knows she will be around non mahram men in a work environment. Will she be rewarded for covering up at those times. A friend has told me this is permissible. Please let me know.

Bismillaah

A: In the first place, it is not right for a woman to be in a mixed environment. She should make taubah for this.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: I like to give further information on this. I work in a Muslim Nursery/Pre school environment. Looking after 3 year olds. There are non-mahrams dropping their children off and picking them up. This is when I would like to know if it is permissible to cover up. I had no idea we were not allowed to work in an environment where there are non mahrams. So now is it permissible to cover up then?

Bismillaah

A: It is obligatory and compulsory to cover up.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
