Woman in Menses is Obliged to Make up Missed Fasts and no Expiation is Due on her

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
I am expected to give birth during Ramadan and there are many opinions on how to make up for the missed fasts after Ramadan. Am I obliged to make up missed fasts and pay expiation or may choose one of them?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Whoever missed fasts of Ramadan due to menses, confinement(Nifas) or an incurable disease is obliged to make up for it since Allah said(What means):"if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later.” [Al-Baqarah/184]. In conclusion, none of the jurists stated that the expiation is due in this case; rather, they are agreed that making up for the missed fasts is an obligation. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
