Istikhara for / by others

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question:
Can I do Istikhara for somebody else? I know it is better to do it yourself, but I would also want it done by somebody else too.

Answer: As you have said, It is better to do istikhara yourself.

Istikhara is seeking good from Allah Ta’ala for a specific matter, we do our bit and Allah will do His.

So for one’s affair one should ask Allah themselves. The concern one feels for his affair will not be felt by others.

There is nothing wrong with requesting other people to make dua for you, nor in making dua for other people, in fact when one makes dua for a friend, the angel of dua says “Ameen and the same for you” (MohsinG 2/12)
