Platinum Rings, Honeymoons and Cruise ship holidays

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

Salaam Hazrat, I have a few questions if you could help me please,

  1. Are men allowed to wear platinum rings?
  2. Are we allowed to go on honeymoons?
  3. Are we allowed to go on a cruise ship holidays?

Jazakallah Hazrat, your help is very much appreciated, and I humbly request that you remember me in your duas.

Answer

  1. No, only silver is permissible for men, and that, too, in the form of a ring, not a chain, bracelet, necklace or anything else.
  2. A honeymoon is in order to increase the love for one another when embarking on a new journey in life.  If there is no mushabahat with other cultures, it will be allowed.  However, exact copying of other people should be avoided.
  3. One hadith says,

“Do not travel on the ocean except for Haj, Umrah or for the path of Allah.”

Which means any unnecessary travelling on the sea should be avoided, therefore such cruises should be avoided.
