Is it wahib or sunnah to recite Dua-E-Qunooth in Witr?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Is reciting dua-e-qunooth in the witr salaat a wajib or is it just a sunnah? Can we recite any other dua in place of dua-e-qunooth? (2) A person was praying salaat and was towards the end of it but did not end the prayers by saying “AS SALAMU ALAIKUM WA RAHMATULLAH” but instead he completed the qaaidah-e-aakhira and got up and got engaged in other daily activities (he forgot to end the prayers by saying “AS SALAMU ALAIKUM WA RAHMATULLAH”) is his salaat valid in this case?

It is necessary to recite the prayer of ‘qunoot’ in the witr prayer. If someone has not memorized it then it becomes necessary to memorize it as well. The longer you delay in memorizing it you will be held accountable for that length of time. To finish the prayer by saying ‘assalamu alaikum…’ is also mandatory in case someone does not do that the prayer has to be repeated.
