Can we take mail in rebate ?

Does mail in rebate come under interest? I’ve heard that companies earn interest on it and then give the money back to you……… please shed some light on this issue………
That is a gift from the company and taking of gift is allowed. How is the company creating the money has nothing to do with us so we are not concerned with that issue.
