Sending a Qur’an in the Mail

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question: Is it permitted to send a copy of the Qur’an by mail? It will get thrown around. Isn’t that disrespectful to the Book of Allah?

Answer: In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

Contemporary Hanafi scholars have been asked about this. Their answer is that because of:
· the need for people to access the Qur’an,
· the prevalent nature of mail order and shipping, and
· the hardship involved in deeming it otherwise,

It is permitted to send copies of the Qur’an as well as other religious literature by mail.
The Qur’an should be packaged properly, so that it is the packaging or box that is being “thrown around” and the Qur’an itself unharmed by the shipping.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
