The person has to make qadha of missed fasts, but they don’t remember when fasting became fard for them

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

My question is on behalf of my friend. She has to make qadha of her missed fasts, but she doesn’t remember when exactly fasting became Fard on her.

What should she do in this situation?

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

The fasting becomes Fard after puberty, therefore, she should recall that at what age she achieved puberty. If that is determined or she has pretty strong assumption that for example, she achieved puberty before Ramadan at the age of 15 then it will be mandatory to make Qazaa (make up) of the missed fasts of that year and the following years. If she fails to recall then as a precaution she should make Qazaa (make up) the missed fasts since she became 10 years old.
