We have an issue here in our community. We live in fisher IN in midwest USA. Since many years we were praying in the only masjid in our city. But as the community is expanding and more people are moving here it has become hard for people who are far from the old masjid to go there for each salat. Looking at that our community decided to build another mosque closer to our neighborhood and conveniently eight miles away from the first one. Our intention is to provide a facility for the muslims close to us and not to divide the community as some people were driving 15 to 20 minutes to go to that masjid. So if we go for asar its hard to come back and go for maghrib again as well as isha.
In this scenario is it permissible for us to build that masjid?
Secondly some people are saying that we are building masjid darar and we are dividing the community and its sinful to pray in that masjid or to cooperate with it. Is that right?

اردنا ان نستفتي في قضية اهمتنا هنا في مجتمعنا. نحن الساكنون في امريكا بمدينة فشرز في ولاية انديانا . منذ سنين كنا نصلي في المسجد الوحيد الواقع في حينا. ولكنا كما ازداد عدد المسلمين هنا و بعدت اماكنهم في هذه المدينة اصبح عسيرا لكثير منهم ان ياتوا للصلوات الي هذا المسجد خاصة للذين يسكنون بعيدا عنه. نظرا الي هذا تشاورنا و قررنا ان نبني مسجدا اخر قريبا من الحي الذي نسكن فيه و علي مسافة ثمانية اميال من المسجد القديم . و قصدنا في اثناء هذا ان نوفر مسجدا للبعيدين عن المسجد القديم اذ كانوا يسوقون من خمسة عشر دقيقة الي عشرين دقيقة للوصول اليه و ما اردنا و العياذ بالله ان نفرق الامة ونحن ان ذهبنا الي المسجد القديم لصلاة العصر ما استطعنا ان نعود لصلاة المغرب و لا للعشاء لبعد المسافة
في مثل هذه الاحوال هل يجوز لنا ان نبني هذا المسجد الجديد؟
ثانيا يقول بعض الناس اننا نبني مسجد الضرار ونحن نفرق الامة و يأثم الرجل بالصلاة في ذلك المسجد و بالتعاون فيه فهل يصح هذا ؟

It is permissible in the Islamic Shari‘ah to build a mosque due to the reasons mentioned in your question. There will be no sin in doing so in fact supporting such a cause and donating to it will be considered as a source of sawab (reward).
