Salah with mic in hand

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualikum,

I have a question regarding praying Salah behind an Imam (non Hanafi) holding microphone while leading Salah. In our city at one Masjid I have seen the Imam holding the mic in Salah starting from takbeer tahreema. Sometime takbeer tahreema is done with one hand raised as the other hand is holding mic near the mouth and everytime to say Allahuakbar the mic is lifted near the mouth and lastly when in tashahud the mic is left on ground and picked up again before getting up or for salam.

All the mic movements can be heard as the mic makes sound when moved, kept on ground, and picked up, etc.

Can you please clarify if Salah is accepted or does the Salah need to be repeated.

Jazak Allah Khair

In the described situation, there is danger of عمل ِکثیر (‘Aml-e-Katheer) and with عمل ِکثیر (‘Aml-e-Katheer) in Salaat, the Salaat becomes فاسد (Faasid), and the Jurists have described the meaning of عمل ِکثیر (‘Aml-e-Katheer) as that action whose doer doesn’t look like a person praying Salaat, or as if a small action is done repeatedly during one رکن (rukan) of Salaat though with one hand only, therefore, if this action is done three times in a رکن (rukan) then there is danger of Salaat becoming فاسد (Faasid), even if it’s not still it’s definitely مکروہ (Makrooh) while nowadays there are alternate equipment available. Further, this situation is against خشوع و خضوع (Concentration and Devotion). Therefore, the Sallaat behind him will be valid, there is no need to repeat it, but should tell the Imaam about this action with wisdom and prudency that this action is مکروہ (Makrooh), therefore it should be avoided.
