What Can I Do About Drops of Urine During Wudu?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: After finishing cleaning my private parts, I remain in that position for 2 minutes in the event of any drops of urine still spilling.
Sometimes, part way through my wudu, I notice a drop at the tip of the penis.
Can you please clarify what one has to do in this situation?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

You should ignore any feelings and sensations that you have. Such suppositions are of no legal consequence. Do not check anything unless you are absolutely certain that something came out. Otherwise, ignore all doubts, even strong ones. Acting upon doubts is contrary to the sunna and misplaced religious caution.

Use the following guidelines when performing istinja’:

[i] After using the toilet, wait a few moments to make sure all remaining drops exit,
[ii] Squeeze and slightly twist the private part,
[iii] Wipe the private part with toilet paper,
[iv] Wash the private part with water three or so times, and
[v] Sprinkle water onto your clothes and private parts.

After this, any doubts of urine being admixed with the water can be and should be ignored.
In the end, it should be noted that acting on one’s doubts is sinful as is excessive wastefulness. Both should be avoided. One should suffice with the sunna method of removing filth on the private parts. This was the way of the salaf, a way of moderation and following the sunna.
