Is Verse 77 of Surah al-Hajj a Verse of Prostration?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: InshaAllah you are in the best of health and spirits. In the last page of Surah Hajj (verse 77), there is a sajdah tilawah in some copies of Quran. In the copy I recite from there isn’t, however I noticed the difference and was wondering if it is recommended to still make sajdah or just follow the Quran I recite from?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are well, insha’Allah.

According to the Hanafi school, verse seventy seven (77) is not considered a verse of prostration; therefore, it would not be obligatory to prostrate after reciting this verse.

However, it would be permitted to do so as it is considered a verse of prostration in the Shafi`i school.

Differences of opinion are a mercy.

And Allah knows best.
