Is Nifas (Post-Partum Bleeding) Part of a Woman’s Idda?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Faraz A. Khan

Question: I wanted to know if the nifas was part of a woman’s idda?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and states.

No, nifas is not part of a woman’s idda. For a pregnant woman, the idda ends as soon as she delivers the baby.

The fuqaha even mention that she may get married immediately after delivery, although the marriage could not be consummated until the completion of nifas. [Zayla`i, Tabyin al-Haqa’iq]

Allah Most High states, “… And [as for] pregnant women, [the end of] their appointed term is that they deliver their burden.” [65:4]

And Allah knows best.
wassalam
