Can I Continue To Post on My Blog if I Can’t Get Rid of Tags Related to Unwanted Content?

Question

On one of my social media pages, I used to post about a television show. However, one of its episodes displayed blasphemous content so I deleted as much content related to the show as I could and am aware of. When clicking the search function of this blog, a drop-down list of tags oft used is displayed and much of these tags are related to the show. I couldn’t find a function to get rid of these tags. This blog is just for fun, is it okay to use it even if these tags are there?

Answer

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. It’s unfortunate that these tags are there in case someone looks it up. Is it possible to delete the whole blog and start a new one? If this blog is just for fun, it seems reasonable for you to re-start a new one. Certainly, it would be meritorious to take the extra step and make your blog totally safe and halal for Muslims. Pray istikhara about it and do what will make you feel better when you are standing before Allah on the Day of Judgment.

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Verily, you will never leave anything for the sake of Allah Almighty but that Allah will replace it with something better.” [Musnad of Ahmad]

May Allah give you the best of this world and the next.
