Is Ghusl Necessary If There Is No Discharge?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org
Question: Salaam if you have an erotic dream with if without orgasm but upon awakening there is no wetness or discharge. Do you then go to the toilet to investigate or leave it? And should ghusl be performed?
Answer:
Thank you for your important question.
If you do not experience orgasm, wetness, or discharge, then there is no obligation on you to make the major ablution (ghusl). [Tahtawi, Hashiya Maraqi al-Falah]
It would be from Piety & God Consciousness (taqwa) to go to the toilet and investigate without excessiveness. True piety can only be obtained with balance as that is the path of the Prophet Muhammad. (Allah bless him and give him peace)
May Allah reward you for your care of his religion and increase you in nearness to him.
And Allah alone knows best.
