Washing clothes on Friday?

I was always told to not wash clothes on Friday. Is there any Islamic reason as why I should not wash clothes on Friday and how strict is this ruling? Does that apply to everyone?

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

There is nothing wrong with washing clothes on Fridays. In some contexts, the discouragement may have been in order to conserve water for those seeking to make ghusl. However, this consideration does not apply to most modern contexts.
