Friday prayers at other than a mosque and your service

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I was told that it is not possible for Jummah prayer to be held in hall where there is no five daily prayers. Please can you confirm this with daleel. I ask this question because a group of brothers got together to hire a place to pray Jummah and because the nearest jummah masjid is 10 miles away other brothers protested saying that this is haram. The brothers who consented to pray Jummah in a hall is mainly due to work commitments otherwise they would have to miss jummah.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It is not a condition for the validity of Friday prayer that it be performed at a mosque or at a place where the daily prayers are established. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Shurunbulali, Imdad al-Fattah] Thus, it would be valid to establish it in such a hall.

For details on the fiqh of Friday prayer, see: www.sunnipath.com in the Hanafi fiqh section.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
