Washing the mouth while fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is it ok if I do not wash my moth during Ramadan while making wudu in order not to risk breaking the fast?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It remains a confirmed sunna in wudu (and an obligation in ghusl) to wash one’s mouth. However, it would be an error to exaggerate while washing. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

It is sufficient to wash calmly, keeping one’s head tilted forward.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
