Working in Tesco Supermarket Checkout

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I am currently working at Tesco as a Checkouts person (at the till) and to it people bring a number of haram things from alcohol to pork to products which contain haram ingredients thus making them haram. These items must be scanned through and put on the side onto a conveyer belt.

Now I was wondering is it acceptable to work in such a situation? Also, they sometimes ask you to do “Put Backs” which is putting back items customers left. Sometimes it contains alcoholic drinks and I was wondering if this is allowed to be transported and put on the shelves? If not, I can easily tell them I am not allowed to transport it in such a manner.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
