Praying on time at work…

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

I work shift times. In winter, I can do my zuhr salaat at lunch time but by the time my next break comes it is maghrib time and I miss out asr. What should I do in such a case where I cant pray asr on time?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

In the name of Allah the Inspirer of truth.

Speak to your supervisor and explain the seriousness of the situation. A letter from the local masjid or Imam may help to convince him. Tell him you can make up the ten or so minutes later on.

In any case, it would be necessary for you to somehow leave your work for even 5 – 10 minutes and perform the Asr prayer in its time. This can be made easier by preserving your wudu from Dhuhr if at all possible. It is not permissible to miss this prayer under such circumstances.

If you come up with resistance then you must actively look for another job as this one is not conducive to your religion.

May Allah assist us in being steadfast on His faith.

Wassalam

Abdurrahman Ibn Yusuf
