Adhan/quran in Friday prayer

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

I sometimes run the jumuah prayers including khutbah in my old school/college. Is it ok that sometimes we missed out the first adhan of jumuah owing to shortage of time? Is it ok that I sometimes may not have mentioned any verse from the quran (or even any hadith) during some of my khutbahs? (it may have just been a fast khutbah especially if there was a shortage of time or I hadn’t planned the khutbah from before properly)

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

In the name of Allah the Inspirer of truth.

Although it is not “OK” as such to have not called out the first adhan or to have missed out verses of Qur’an from the khutbah, the Jumu’a congregation was still valid and the obligation was absolved.

However, it is not permitted to miss them since the adhan is sunnah and reciting at least one verse of the Qur’an is sunna and leaving it out is disliked [makruh] (Radd al-Muhtar 1:544).

Wassalam

Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf
