Do I need to pay Fidya for missed fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

I was unable to fast 2 ramadans ago because i was pregnant and fasting made me sick. I was not afraid for my child. I was unable to make up my fasts by the next ramadan because i was breastfeeding. Now this Ramadan is almost here and I still have not made up my fasts because I am still breastfeeding. Insha’Allah I intend to make up these fasts after this Ramdan as there will be no more breastfeeding. Do I need to pay fidya for the days i was unable to make up?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

In the Hanafi school, you simply have to make up those missed fasts, when you are able, and no expiation (fidya) is required. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Ibn al-Humam, Fath al-Qadir]
