Iftar Practice

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

At the time of breaking fast, I have observed that some Muslims (In masjids) sit and eat first for 10 minutes or so and then get up to pray maghrib salat in jamat. Others break the fast with some dates, pray immediately and then eat afterwards. What is the correct position in the hanafi school.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

In terms of validity, both ways are valid. However, the latter is, generally speaking, superior, as it is somewhat disliked to delay the Maghrib prayer even slightly.

Wassalam,

Faraz.
