Does breast milk caused by medication make an adopted child a mahram?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Ustadha Hedaya Hartford, SunniPath Academy Teacher

I intend to adopt a girl and breast feed her by taking medications, will she be a mahram to my husband?
Is it permissible in Islam to take medication in order to breast feed?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the name of Allah Most Merciful Most Compassionate

I pray you are well and in the best of health and iman.

Taking medication to bring on milk is permissible if by taking the medication there is no harm.

The baby girl will be a mahram to your husband if he has a consummated marriage with you and she is feed before she reaches the age of 2 lunar years (1 solar year and 11 months). But the girl will not be a mahram to the rest of his family.

And Allah Most High knows best.
