Following imam from behind a barrier

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

We have the same problem at our university prayer room. we have a curtain that prevents the female followers to see the imam or any of the brothers who are following the imam. Should it be open during congregation prayers?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

If the women are in the same place, or in a place immediately adjacent to the place where the men are praying and can follow the imam’s prayer (directly or through an indirect means), then their praying in that congregation is valid. [see: Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Shurunbulali, Imdad al-Fattah]

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
