Is it acceptable to believe in horoscopes or are they just predetermined destiny?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Me and my friends buy weekly teenage magazines. It’s what we’ve been doing all our teen years. The bit that interests us most it the horoscope page, which we all hurry to as soon as we buy the magazine.

Is it ok to believe in horoscopes? As some of my friends say thay its wrong and others say that our destiny is already written and thats all horoscopes are?

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

It is prohibited to believe in horoscopes, star signs, astrologers, fortune tellers etc.

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said that, “Whoever goes to an astrologer or diviner and believes them has disbelieved in that which has been revealed to Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam).” (Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i, and Ibn Maja)

It is mentioned in Al Aqidatut Tahawiyah that, “We do not accept as true what soothsayers and fortune-tellers say, nor do we accept the claims of those who affirm anything which goes against the Book, the Sunnah and the consensus of the Muslim Ummah.”

Also, one should avoid reading such literature, as it is nonsense, pointless waste of time and money.

And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
