Burning people as a punishment

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: According to ISIS, burning someone to punish him is permissible. They quote the scholar Ibn Hajar that it is permissible to burn. The Prophet branded two men from Uraynah with a branding iron. Is this authentic?

Bismillaah

A: There is a hadeeth in Abu Dawood where we are commanded not to burn anybody.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
