Is Watching Abyssinians Play Sports Permissible?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. If someone uses Aa’ishah (Radhiallahu Anha’s) looking at the Abyssinians as a proof of permissibility for watching such sport which has no Haram i.e music uncovering of satr women etc is this correct?

2. Therefore can one class this act as A) a waste of time B) lahw C) la yanee 3. If so then why?

Bismillaah

A: The commentators have spoken of this hadeeth that they prefer the hadeeth where Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had stopped women from looking at males: “afa amyawani antuma.”

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: But because of this narration can you say watching a halal sport (not on tv, with no women, no music, no uncovering of satr etc) is not la yani and is permissible?

Bismillaah

A: Generally the sports that are in vogue have some element of wrong. To say that it will not have any element of wrong is quite far fetched.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
