Reciting surahs in the missed rakaats of salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I had missed two rakahs of maghrib in Jama’ah, so I continued to offer them after the Imaam said salaam. But I recited a surah in both the rakahs, thinking that my prayer would otherwise have only one surah recited. Is this correct?

Bismillaah

A: Your Salaah is valid. You were required to recite a Surah after Surah Faatiha in both the rakaats.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
