Mani, mazi and wadi

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I want to ask about the tree types of male liquids that may or may not break the ghusul, their types and form and what are the conditions that make ghusul wajib?

A: There are basically three liquids besides urine that come out of a male private part:

(1) Wadi – this is secreted after urine on account of some sickness.

(2) Mazi – Pre-coital fluid secreted at the time of arousal. It is thin and sticky.

In the case of both, only wudhu breaks.

(3) Mani – semen. If it comes out with desire, irrespective of whether due to fanaticizing, touching or relationship with one’s spouse, it will necessitate ghusl.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
