Why and since when is the Ka’bah covered in black cloth

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Why is the kaba covered with black cloth and from when it is covered like so?

Bismillaah

A: Mamoon ar-Rasheed initially covered it with white silk. After some time, Naasir Abbasi changed the colour of the ghilaaf to black which is practice till today. (Fatawaa Mahmoodiyah, vol. 6, p. 557)
