Fidyah for missed salaah and fasts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My mother was ill for the last 5 years and on 15th march 2018 she left us. Please tell us about the fidya for namaz and roza.

Bismillaah

A: If she made a bequest for fidyah to be discharged for her missed namaaz and missed roza then it will be compulsory to discharge from one third of her estate. If she did not make such a bequest then it is optional which a person has to do from his own wealth. The fidyah for each namaaz and each roza is the equivalent of sadaqatul fitr.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
