Give fidyah for missed fasts? How much?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
My wife has delivered baby boy on 5th July 2012 and she will be tahir after 40 days, so whether we can give fidyah on behalf of fast or need to make qaza of those fast later. Also, advise what will be fidyah of one fast i.e. in rupees?

Answer

(Fatwa: 1322/1323/M=1433)

The order of fidyah is for such a person who cannot keep fast due to disease or old age and it is not hoped that he would ever be able in his future life to keep fast. It is necessary on your wife to make the qaza of those fasts. Now it is not right for her to pay fidyah for the fasts.
