For how many hours should a person sleep?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: How much sleep should a 8 year old child becoming hafiz have? Even in general if a child is not becoming hafiz how much sleep should they have? Does Islam say anything into how many hours we should sleep also as adults?

Bismillaah

A: Sleep is in proportion to need. Some children’s need to sleep is greater than others. On average an 8 year old requires about 9 hours of sleep.

Adults require between 7 to 8 hours.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
