Committee selling Qurbaani animals

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by

Q: Question on costing for Qurbani by the committee providing the service. Is it permissible to add an extra amount to the Qurbani cost for masjid development projects. To add service charges and admin costs is understandable. But using the Qurbani as an opportunity for fund raising for the masjid is questionable. This pushes the cost of Qurbani up making it difficult to perform the duty.

A: If the animals were donated to the committee with the instruction that they sell the animals and spend the profits in different courses, then they have the right to sell the animals at whatever price they wish. However they should spend the profits in the courses specified to them by the donors. If one feels that the price of the animals is high, he may purchase Qurbaani animals elsewhere.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
