Where is Allah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Wassalaam Respected Mufti Sahib,

Thank You very Much for your reply!

So when one of these people ask us Where is Allah, what can a laymen person reply back?

Answer:

If somebody inquires regarding the whereabouts of Allah, then you should respond by making him/her aware of the fact that it is Allah’s knowledge and power of ability which are present in every direction. No place is void of the power and knowledge of Allah and this is easily understood from the following Ayah of the holy Qur’an:” And the Ownership of the East and the West belongs to Allah alone. So whichever direction you face, Allah’s Countenance (Glory) is there. Surely Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.” (Al-Baqarah, Verse 115)

To illustrate your point use such examples which will make it easier for you to explain e.g. the statement “The King’s presence is found throughout his kingdom” which means that his authority is extensive, not that he is present physically. If any crime is committed in his kingdom, he is made aware of it and passes a decision accordingly.  We cannot specify any location for Allah and believe that He is confined to any space.  The human body comprises of a soul which can never be pointed out, in spite of it’s existence. In a similar manner the brain gathers a huge amount of information, but one cannot specify a certain portion of the brain as the repository of this information.

We should bear in mind that all these examples are given in order to easily appease the inquiring mind. Indeed Allah’s position is beyond comparison.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
