Was Adam (A.S.) a Nabi?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

What do Ulamaa-e-Ahnaaf say from Kitaab and Sunnah about a person who denies the Nubuwwah of Adam (A.S.) or of any Nabi of Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala?  Some of the English translations do not include the name of Adam (A.S.) in the list of Ambiyaa whose names are mentioned in the Qur’an.  What should we think of these people?  What are the proofs regarding Adam (A.S.) Nubuwwah?

Answer:

Hazrat Adam (A.S.) is undoubtedly a true prophet of Allah. His prophet hood is proven from the Qur’aan and sayings of our beloved Nabi (S.A.W.). In the Qur’aan, Allah (S.W.T.) has repeatedly drawn our attention to the numerous conversations which transpired between Allah and Nabi Adam (A.S.), as a declaration of his prophet hood, since the gift of directly speaking to Allah has only been endowed to the prophets.

Once Abu Thar (R.A.) asked Rasoolullah (S.A.W.): “Oh Rasoolullah what is your opinion with regards to Adam (A.S.)? Is he a Nabi of Allah?” Rasoolullah (S.A.W.) replied: “Yes he is a Nabi who directly spoke to Allah.”

Those individuals who deny the prophet hood of Adam (A.S.) are in actual fact denouncing a judgment made by Allah (S.W.T.). Whosoever refuses to accept Hazrat Adam (A.S.) as a Nabi of Allah will be classified a Kaafir.

If the people whom you refer to in your question have done so deliberately, in denial of the prophet hood of Adam (A.S.), then they too will be classified as Kuffaar.
