Assalamu Alaikum What I want to ask is about the ongoing matter about Lays Chips and can you assure whether it is Halal or Haram? Another thing is that an SMS is in circulation referring to Mufthi Thaqi Usmani’s name saying that he has said about an elder who is said to have seen Rasoolullahi Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam in dream saying that (Azab) punishment is due to descend on Pakistan and everybody to recite Surah Shams for safety. There is no objection in reciting Surah Shams but is it correct ot attribute it to Rasoolullhi Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallams name? Please guide me in this matter. May Allah reward you for this and may He shower mercy upon us, our country and Muslims.

Many contradictory research results have emerged with regard to the ingredients contained in Lays Chips and none of them could be declared as final whereas it is not possible to declare it to be definitely Haram. However due to the differences in researches it is preferable to refrain from eating it. However, if it is established through an unbiased research that it is mixed with any kind of Haram ingredient or due to any chemical reaction the essence and the nature of the Haram ingredient is not transformed too, then in such a circumstance it is Haram to consume it and abstinence from it is essential.
The referred dream is a fact and it was a dream of a pious lady. Regionally many of the respected Ulamas have verified the dream personally and after having obtained the full description it was conveyed onward. Therefore in the current situation along with excessive repentance it is extremely necessary to recite Sura Wash-Shams up-to the number of times mentioned.
