What is the Sunnah Qirāʾah for Eid Ṣalāh?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Answer
There are three combinations that have been transmitted from the practice of the Prophet ﷺ:
- Firstly, Sūrah 50 (Qāf) and Sūrah 54 (al-Qamar) (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 891).
- Secondly, Sūrah 87 (al-Aʿlā) and Sūrah 88 (al-Gāshiyah) (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 878).
- Thirdly, Sūrah 78 (al-Nabaʾ) and Sūrah 91 (al-Shams) (Musnad al-Bazzār, 4808; al-Talkhīṣ al-Ḥabīr, 2: 203. This narration is weak as mentioned in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid, 2: 204 but can be practiced upon).
Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751/1350) mentions the first two combinations in Zād al-Maʿād (1: 205) and affirms that the Prophet ﷺ would recite the full chapters. It is therefore Sunnah to recite the full Sūrah and not suffice on a few verses.
