Dua after eating sweet dish

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

I know that the following duʿāʾ اللھم إني أسئلك حلاوۃ الإیمان is narrated from the Prophet ﷺ. However, is there any narration that mentions that the Prophet ﷺ recited or recommended this duʿāʾ when eating a dessert or a sweet dish?

Answer

Although some narrations make reference to the term حلاوۃ الإیمان (sweetness of faith) (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, 16), we are not aware of any supplication of the Prophet ﷺ which includes these words. Neither are we aware of any narration that mentions that the Prophet ﷺ recited or recommended this duʿāʾ when eating a dessert or a sweet dish. It is recommended that a person reads the Sunnah supplications before and after eating. Whilst there is no harm in reading this duʿāʾ, one must not regard it as Sunnah.
