Looking at the Ka’bah is rewarding

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

Is there any chain for this narration or similar wording of this narration?

النظر الى الكعبة عبادة

On what principle do we base the fact that looking at the Ka’bah is regarded to be an act of worship?

Answer

We learn from authentic Hadiths that one hundred and twenty mercies descends daily upon the Ka’bah. Twenty of these mercies are directed towards those who are merely gazing at the Ka’bah.

(Musnadul Harith; Bughyatul Bahith, Hadith: 392, Shu’abul Iman of Bayhaqi, Hadith: 3760. See further references and the authenticity here)

With regard to the narration in question, the following narrations are recorded in Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq and Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah from prominent Tabi’un:

  1. Imams: Ata and Mujahid (rahimahumallah) have said:

النظر إلى البيت عبادة، وتكتب له بها حسنة، وتصلي عليه الملائكة ما دام ينظر إليه

Translation: Looking at the Ka’bah is regarded to be ‘ibadah and a good deed will be recorded for this. The angels [make du’a for forgiveness] for a person as long as he looks at [the Ka’bah].

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq: 9173)

2) Imam Muhammad Ibnul Munkadir (rahimahullah) said:

بلغني أن لكل نظرة تنظر إلى البيت حسنة

Translation: It has reached me that a person will receive a good deed for every gaze towards the Ka’bah

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq: 9175)

3) Imams: Tawus, Mujahid, ‘Ata and ‘Abdur Rahman ibnul Aswad (rahimahumullah) said:

النظر إلى البيت عبادة

Translation: Looking at the Ka’bah is an act of worship

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah: 14984, 14985, 14986, 14987)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
