Sayyiduna Abud Darda’s (radiyallahu ‘anhu) statement regarding dhikr

Question

The Companion, Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:

“Those whose tongues are moist with the remembrance of Allah will enter Paradise laughing.”

Answer

This is narration is recorded in Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Ahmad.

Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “Those whose tongues were moist with the remembrance of Allah, will enter Jannah laughing.”

(Kitabuz Zuhd: 726)

Arabic text

عن أبي الدرداء قال: إن الذين ألسنتهم رطبة بذكر الله يدخل أحدهم الجنة وهو يضحك

Note: Although this Hadith has been reported as the statement of Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu), the nature of the narration is not such that could be said by applying logic. It will therefore be understood that he heard this from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) (مرفوع حكما).
