The punishment for learning the Quran but not practising upon it

Question

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said about a dream he had: “The man whose head was being crushed by a rock was someone who learnt the Quran but then cast it aside it and slept through the obligatory prayer.”

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this as part of a longer narration Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Samurah ibn Jundub (radiyallahu ‘anhu). It is therefore authentic.

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would often ask the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) if they saw any dream. On one occasion, Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) related a dream in which he saw various people being punished. Among them were those whose heads were being crushed due to them abandoning the teachings of the Quran and abandoning Salah.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
