The narrator Abu Umamah As’ad ibn Sahl

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

Kindly provide a brief biography on Abu Aslamah As’ad ibn Sahl.

Answer

I have not managed to locate any information regarding the narrator Abu Aslamah, As’ad ibn Sahl. I have only come across the name of such a narrator accompanied by the aforementioned agnomen in ‘Allamah Suyuti’s (rahimahullah) book, titled Is’aful Mubatta . It seems, however, to have most probably been an alteration [tahrif] of the word Umamah. [i.e. instead of Umamah, Aslamah was written].

(Is’aful Mubatta, pgs. 300 and 364)

The narrator in question most probably refers to Abu Umamah, As’ad ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf Al-Ansari (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Refer: Siyaru A’alamin Nubala, vol. 3 pgs. 517-519, and Taqribut Tahdhib, Number: 402)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
