The marriage age of Sayyidatuna ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu’anha)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

What is the most verified age of the marriage and consumation of marriage thereafter of Sayyidatina ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) to Rasulullah (Salallahu’alayhi Wa Sallam)? Famously known to be 6 and 9 respectively but is this supported in view of narrations and views of our salaf or not?

Answer

According to the authentic narrations found in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, Sayyidatuna ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu’anha) was married to Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) at the age of 6 while still in Makkah Mukarramah.

She was sent to live with Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) after migration to Madinah Munawwarah at the age of 9.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3894, 3896 & 5158, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 3464-3467)

This is the correct and the popular view.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
