A du’a asking Allah to make one’s sight, silence and speech a means of attaining reward

Who is this du’a attributed to?

اللهم اجعل نظري عبرا وصمتي تفكرا ومنطقي ذكرا

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has recorded this on the authority of Abu Idris Al Khawlani (rahimahullah), a Tabi’i, who reports this as the du’a of an unnamed Yemeni.

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah: 30212, 36521 and Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 5 pg. 122)

Translation

O Allah! Make my sight/vision one of taking lesson, my silence a means of meditation/pondering and my speech remembrance [dhikr].

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
