The severity of the heat of the sun on the Day of Qiyamah

Is this Hadith authentic?

تعطي الشمس يوم القيامة حر عشر سنين ثم تدنى من جماجم الناس حتى تكون قاب قوسين قال فيعرقون حتى يرشح العرق في الأرض قامة ثم يرتفع حتى يغرغر الرجل

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has recorded this as the statement of Sayyiduna Salman (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak (rahimahullah) has recorded the narration with slight variation in the wording.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared the chain authentic (jayyid).

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 32333, Fathul Bari, under Hadith: 6532, vol. 11 pg. 394)

The nature of this narration is not such that Sayyiduna Salman (radiyallahu ‘anhu) could have made applying logic. It will therefore be understood that he heard this from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

(Refer: Footnotes of Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah on Musannaf, Hadith: 32333)

Translation

On the Day of Qiyamah, the sun will be given the heat of ten years. It will be brought close to the heads of the people until it is the distance of two bows [extremely close] which will cause people to perspire profusely. They will perspire so much that the perspiration will seep into the ground and will then rise up and cause a person to choke.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
