Two qualities one requires to become noble

Could you mention the reference of this statement and who is it attributed to?

لا ينبل الرجل حتى يكون فيه خصلتان العفة عما في أيدي الناس والتجاوز عنهم

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya and Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahumallah) have recorded this as the statement of Ayyub As Sakhtiyani (rahimahullah).

(Makarimul Akhlaq, Hadith: 43 and Rawdatul ‘Uqala, pg. 167)

Translation

A man will not achieve nobility until he inculcates two qualities; Abstaining from the possessions of people and to pardon and overlook them.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
