Meaning of a Hadith on witr salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

What is the meaning of this part of the Hadith (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1720) regarding witr:

Yutiru min zalika bikhamsin.

Answer

It means Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) would offer his three witr as well as the two rak’ats before it while standing. Unlike the other rak’ats of tahajjud, which Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) would sometimes offer while seated.

These five were never offered seated.
